The Isle of Palms Motel offers a convenient location near the boardwalk and beach, but consistently receives negative reviews regarding cleanliness, maintenance, and guest comfort. Recent feedback highlights issues like malfunctioning appliances, unsanitary conditions, and a lack of service standards, while some positive comments acknowledge friendly staff and a basic level of amenities. Overall, the property requires significant investment to meet guest expectations.

Don’t bother with this place. The room had several issues, including a broken, flickering lamp and missing blinds in both windows. At check-in, there were no bath towels or washcloths, and when asked, the rude front desk clerk—who spoke with a heavy accent—told us he was too busy to provide any and that we would have to come back later without giving a timeframe. The hand towels we did receive had ants on them, and the second bedroom, which had two beds, had no working outlets. The bathroom sink only had scalding hot water, while the kitchenette sink never got warm at all. To make matters worse, there was only one remote provided for two televisions.

If I could give ZERO stars I would! We checked in early which was a nice surprise, but BUYER BEWARE!!!! I didn’t want to believe the reviews I read about this place. Now I wish I had. Trying to have a nice weekend get away turned into a nightmare. Our toilet clogged in the middle of the night. Had to drive to WaWa to use a restroom. I finally got a hold of the front desk. I was given a plunger. We have to plunge it nearly every time it’s used. Go back to front desk to complain. I was told we used too much toilet paper. Toilet paper which is barely single ply tissue. Someone comes to the room to check it out. Toilet not clogged. Guy says nothing is wrong and walks out. I also complained about the so called Queen bed not having a base that fits the entire mattress. I’m told that the bed is okay, it fit two people, nothing wrong with bed. Pictures added for reference. I asked for money back. I was told I can have money back but I leave now. Fantastic hospitality right there! Why be in the hospitality business if you don’t take accountability for the issues with your property?! You clearly don’t care about your guests experience or repeat business. Stay here at your own risk! We surely won’t ever stay here again!

The room was great. But there was a huge party that took over the eating area and pool area like it was there own private event. Music was loud and they were drinking alcohol (there were bottles of liquor covering an entire table) like it was water and a lot of cigarette smoke. We felt like we couldn't even use the pool at least one day of our stay because of this party. We're fine if people want to drink but in an open area like that where children could potentially get into it is not safe. It also seemed like some of the hotel policies were not enforced such as children under 18 being in the hot tub area.

The Isle of Palms Motel in Wildwood is NOT the Ritz, but it is a decent place for a family to stay. Our room had 2 full size beds and 1 queen size bed and 4 chairs at a round table. No couch or sitting area other than the beds, so if you plan to hang out in your room, expect to sit on a bed or old, dirty dining chair. I brought my own fan and broom because I read other reviews that mentioned 1 AC and sandy floors. My husband and I travelled with our 2 teenagers and we were glad everyone got their own bed (except my husband, ha!) and we appreciated the privacy of being able to close the "bedroom" door. The pool water is clean, cold, and refreshing. The Hot Tub does not heat. The water was the same temp as the pool. The deck area has grills that guests can use for free (bring your own food!) and the full size fridge in the room is great for storing snacks and food so you don't have to go out to eat every meal. There are SEVERAL restaurants within walking distance, and the boardwalk is super close. Our room had a private balcony out back (king rooms do NOT have a balcony) and my kids loved being able to sit outside and enjoy quiet. The space, overall, feels very dated and could use a thorough scrub down and some paint on the ceiling. Oh, and bring your own bath towels because the hotel towels are rather small. Although, housekeeping did give us plenty more when asked. The shower is either ICE COLD or SCALDING HOT and it changes about every 5 seconds. I imagine this would be very difficult to bathe smaller children, so be prepared for that. Front desk and housekeeping staff were all super friendly, and helpful. There is no complimentary breakfast or even coffee, but plenty of shops nearby. The coffee maker in our room was hideous, even when we ran only water through to try to rinse it out, we opted to take a walk to local coffee shops. All in all, I would recommend this hotel for a family with kids who are traveling on a budget, as long as you dont mind staying in an older, dingy hotel. Vacation memories are waiting to be made!! Enjoy your stay!

The hotel is walking distance from board walk and beach. There is one air conditioner for 2 rooms. Everything is kind of wet/damp. The bathrooms aren’t very clean. I saw a roach in the bathroom on the last night. The toilet wobbles. The sink faucet sprays al over the place. There is no cold water in the shower so it’s tough for little ones showering up. The water temperature will go from hot to lava in an instant. We did have a full size fridge, but no brackets on the shelves on the door, so anything would fall off of them. We saw the housekeeping throwing pizza boxes off the balcony, and also buckets of water onto the pool patio splashing anyone near by. I also saw house keeping dragging a comforter along the outside floor on way to a room, away from the laundry room. I thought maybe they were taking it to be washed, but they were coming out of the laundry room…! Also, our friends paid the same price, but got a stovetop and couch in their room. The hotel overall isn’t that cheap for what you get. I will cross this place off my list for sure.

We are returning patrons, and have enjoyed staying here over the last few years. This year I will say there have been some upgrades which are great! All rooms are equipped with a key card lock now. There is more seating in the patio area, with new umbrellas. Better outdoor lighting. New lounge chairs outside of each room. As always everyone working at The Isle of Palms is super friendly and helpful.

This place is perfect if you're looking to cook your own meals. We got a great room. Family of 4, 3 beds, private balcony. Saw the fireworks from the hotel room. It was awesome. The place needs a paint job but thats about it. It's not a 5 star but it was perfect for us.

Overall we had a good experience. Things stared off a bit rough, as the rooms ONE A.C unit died within our first half hour. They brought us a new one within an hour though. The water definitely wanted to boil us alive, the shower especially as the temperature dial had about 1/16 of an inch of "warm" in-between a small amount of cold and Satanically hot! Our toilet needed a new handle/arm and the float was iffy. As a result our handle was useless and I had to manually pull the disconnected arm to activate the flush for everyone except my fiance all week. The tub drain and "kitchen" sink were clogged too but we were able to tolerate all the plumbing concerns. All 3 beds, 2 full 1 queen, were on full-size bedframes, but were otherwise clean and comfortable. I personally loved the private balcony. The fact we were a block from the boardwalk was amazing as well! The day we were leaving the elevator quit. The fire dept ended up shutting it down after a woman got stuck.

Our room was filthy. I do not think the floors have been mopped or swept before we checked in. There were dirty towels left on the deck with an ashtray containing a half smoked cigar. The entire place smelled like cigarettes (rooms, decks, pool side). Multiple rooms had clogged toilets and had to wait for a plunger multiple times. (We were a group staying in multiple rooms for a soccer tournament). We had to ask for towels (2 were in the bathroom upon check in). This was the filthiest place I have ever stayed. The location is perfect. The pool area and patio were great minus the cigarette smell. If you have kids and are looking for a clean and smoke free atmosphere, I wouldn't recommend. Very disappointed. Staff was indifferent about the towels and toilets getting clogged. I didn't really complain about the filth or smoking situation as I believe itit wouldn't have helped in any way. One family checked out early due to the filth and plumbing. Including only pic I took (at check in)

When I say I’m not picky when it comes to cheap motels, I mean it. I’ve stayed in rooms where I’ve had a roach greet me at the door, one where a mouse spent the nights scurrying from a hole in the wall to a hole in the door across the room, one where an upstairs neighbor was having a party all night and was told we “should’ve expected noise at the beach” when I called the front desk, and I gave them all 5 stars because they had the basics that I tend to look for in a cheap space. This place, however, had no basics. The water ran brown so I was brushing my teeth with water bottles, no towels were provided, I found a chewed up piece of candy in one of the beds, plenty of evidence across the floor that there wasn’t even basic sweeping done between guests, children running up and down the hall banging on the doors at night, curtains didn’t keep out any light so the neons all night kept the room bright and the sun was in our eyes the moment it popped above the horizon. When we arrived there was a paper taped to the office door that said “call number for check in”, I called, a teenager answered and took 15 minutes to get to the office and let us check in. That didn’t bother me, he was pleasant and clearly got to us as quickly as he could, but when I got to the room and noticed no towels, I called again and my number had evidently been blocked as I kept getting a generic “the number you are trying to reach is not in service” even though I hit redial on the number I’d just spoken with someone on. Nobody was in the office for the entire week duration of our stay and we had to call from a different phone number to check out. A nitpicky detail that wouldn’t have bothered me elsewhere, the bed frames are all full sized even when you get a room that has a king or queen sized bed, so the edges of the mattress were drastically slanting down and we had to rig a situation with the chairs. The room also advertised as being a suite, 2 queen beds in one bedroom then a full sized in the living room. It was the opposite, so 1 queen bed in the living room and 2 full in the bedroom. Luckily we only needed 1 queen, but it would be nice to receive what is listed as your room amenities I gave 1 star for service only because I couldn’t give 0 and there was no service. 1 star for rooms, again there is no option for 0 and I expect at the LEAST to find clean bedding and potable water. I gave 3 stars for location, because it’s a block from the boardwalk and about 10 minutes walk to the Ferris wheel, but in an alley with no decent view. The photos in reviews imply a view of the Ferris wheel, but after arriving we noticed the view is only possible for the far corner of the 4th floor. The first photo I’m including was after letting the water run for 5 minutes and “clear” up, you can still see it’s coming out uncomfortably yellow by then. The second photo is the chewed wax candy top we found in the bed. Third is the bathroom floor, showing dust and hairs and clear evidence that a broom or mop have never made their way into that room.
