The Harbor Mist Motel offers a convenient location near the beach and boardwalk in Wildwood, and is praised for its friendly staff and clean rooms. However, recent reviews highlight significant issues with communication, guest fees, cleanliness, and property maintenance, leading to a mixed guest experience.
Posting this publicly since owner chose not to respond to our email, nor did she call to attempt a conversation about our stay. Good afternoon, my family stayed at your property during July 1-4th, in suite 18. I would like to first state that we are returning patrons who recommended your property to many folks coming your way, and truly enjoyed our first stay with your property in 2018. While we did enjoy our stay we have a few concerns we choose to email rather than handle in person due to the communication received during our stay. First, your website states very clearly that friends/family of guests are welcome, with an additional fee; we were visiting from out of state to visit local family. The gentleman, assuming he is the husband of the owner, kicked our family off the premises without conversation about any fee to visit. He was very rude to our family members and due to this we didn’t get to spend time with our family during our stay. Second, we continued to come across items in our suite during our stay; a pair of ladies glasses, a light-up ball, an empty mondo bottle, coins and hair ties. Third, when I booked our stay, directly with the motel, I provided that we may have an additional person checking in with us; at the time of booking schedules were unclear; we were told this could be handled at check-in. At check-in we were not questioned on a headcount, even though three adults were present at check-in with mention of other members in the car, rather the first evening, hours into our stay, the gentleman I previously spoke of, told us we were breaking occupancy rules. When we booked we informed that it would be four adults and two young children, both under the age of 4, and he immediately charged the card on file a ridiculous fee for TWO additional persons. The fee we paid to stay in your motel was absurd since we dealt with leaking water faucets, clogged shower drains, dirty dishes, torn, peeling and dirty furniture, no cooking tools for the grill nor a way to light the same, unclean living space with property left in many areas, one rude owner, and when it rained the top floor became stinky and slippery because the roof leaked missing the gutters and soaked both landings; my three year old fell hurting her bum and finger while the cleaning lady mopped the main concrete level with no warning signs of doing so, and making the areas very dangerous to pass. We were told the pool was open while manager was on site, we witnessed the owner(s) coming in and out of a suite all hours of the day and evening and so we assumed they lived on-site, however we were also harassed for use of the pool, late in the evening (8 and 8:30pm)and early in the morning (8:30??). Also, when we first checked in the gentleman gave us keys to access the suite for an urgent need for the bathroom of one of our littles, and we were given keys to an occupied room. Thankfully the occupants were not inside however it was brought to the attention of those occupants on day two by that gentleman whom checked us in, apologies were passed and future friendships developed, so no true concern on this regard.
Could be worse? It's great to be so close to the beach! Pool is nice. They accidentally gave us a 1 bed instead of 2, but fixed it for us no problem.Everything in Wildwood has some level of kitschy, dated charm, and the exterior of the motel fits in to this. Room generally felt cheap, and old (and not in a fun retro way, )but well cleaned. Seemed freshly painted and beds are serviceable and clean. Carpet was sticky, bathroom floor had stained grout, towels were thin and rough. Wasn't even a place to hang a hand towel, let alone bath or beach towels. There was a coffee maker, but no coffee or filters for it. Air-conditioner kept the room cool but was very loud. Provided toiletries did the trick. Parking lot was a nightmare. Russo's is an easy walk for breakfast pastries and coffee.
I've come here every summer since 1999. Never a disappointment even though has gone through 2 owners. Diane, the new proprietor is very pleasant and accommodating. The property has had a few upgrades and the rooms have new mattresses which is great plus. Still the best place in Wildwood. Half a block from the beach and 4 blocks from the boardwalk. All this being said the pool would benefit being cleaned daily by an adult and for it to be heated as advertised.
We had a great time at The Harbor Mist. Diana was wonderful, very accommodating to my family and made our stay very pleasant. The location is great, close to the beach, and the rooms were clean. The motel has the classic Wildwood feel, and if that is what you're looking for you will be happy. Great location, clean pool, clean rooms, great value, and friendly people - for a family like mine with young children what more can you ask for? We are looking forward to staying here again.
Depends on what you're looking for. If you're expecting the Hilton, move on. If you're looking for a good place to stay with no frills, you've found it. Customer service is great!! The lady behind the counter is great! She was very helpful. I feel like I asked her for two thousand special requests: can we park there early, do you do late check out, early check in, can we leave the car there after checking out, etc. While she didn't always say yes, she didn't just first it say no. She always took the time to look up availability or verify the possibility. Basically, I never felt brushed aside, rather she actually took the time to give a fair answer. Place is simple. Most walls are painted block and the shelving is just wire shelves added into the wall. There are some closets, but they are small. Kitchenette was useful and appliances in good shape. Pool was very nice. Good area for little ones that they can't get into the deep area. I'd stay there again, but not for very long, as the room was took small for us. we have a lot of kids and for more than a weekend we'd kill each other. Good place and thanks to the owners for a good weekend!
Great room and the pool was the perfect temperature! Close to the beach and the wooden playground equipment that my son loves. Dianna the manager was very accommodating and got me on the email list for specials- as a single mom this is very helpful! I felt safe bringing my son here by myself and it’s a warm and welcoming environment. Maria, who is in charge of housekeeping, kept my room stocked with the essentials and kept it tidy when we went to the beach and it was such a nice perk!
