Jolly Roger Motel is a recently renovated, affordable option near Wildwood Crest with a dedicated staff and on-site coffee shop, but mixed reviews highlight reputational issues regarding ownership responsiveness and room condition quality control.
This was the second year we have stayed already booked for next year they have the best and I mean the best staff love Vince and Joe great people great rooms great pool can’t say the enough about this place love the music they play specially at night
Low key, super casual motel, but clean, recently remodeled and stocked with nice amenities. Beds are basic but decent enough, bathroom is small, but again, fine for a couple. Flat screen TV, fridge and microwave and a nice patio too. There’s a pool, pickleball courts and cornhole, and a coffee shop on site. Easy walk to the beach and Centennial Park and a handful of decent restaurants. Great ice machine! Walls are paper thin though - I could hear the screaming kid next door just fine
My family and I have been coming here since I was a kid back in the '90s. During our last stay, we raised some concerns about the pull-out sofa and the bed, which were incredibly uncomfortable. I don’t expect luxury, but you do want a decent place to sleep, especially for the price you pay. They assured us that this year, including the owner, they were in the process of getting new sofas. However, when we returned this year, there were no new sofas because most of them in the motel were broken. When we pulled out our sofa, it was not only broken, but as you can see in the pictures, the springs were popping out, which could really hurt someone. There were also makeshift boards propping it up. I went to the front desk and spoke with both the manager and the owner, expressing my concerns. Unfortunately, the owner didn’t seem interested in listening. Since my mother was there and I’m a 42-year-old man, he preferred to talk to her instead of me. I told him he could come and talk to me directly because I’m not a kid. When the owner came to our room, he rudely told my family that if we weren’t happy, we could leave. We had just arrived after a four-hour drive! He even suggested we could leave right then and there because we were complaining about the sofa. Honestly, if you’re paying $2,500 for a weekday stay, you expect something decent, not broken furniture. As shown in the pictures, part of my family had to sleep on the floor while I was stuck on the broken sofa. The owner was incredibly rude and unprofessional, dismissing our concerns, including the fact that someone in our group was handicapped. He kept telling my mother that we were complaining too much and that we could just leave, which was frustrating since we had just gotten there after a long drive. The owner mentioned that if you don’t want to sleep on the sofa, you should just book another room. But honestly, why would I pay an extra $2,500 for that? There are plenty of folks who can’t shell out $5,000 for two rooms, so they end up sharing one. Clearly, the owner has the means to make it work. I told them straight up that for the amount we spent, we could find better places. I’ve been coming here since I was a kid, and I believe in the saying, “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” The current owner isn’t the original; it’s his son. And we all know how that goes when kids take over family businesses. My family and I have decided we won’t be returning. I really think that if you’re considering booking here, you might want to think twice about whether it’s worth the money.
2nd time staying at the Jolly Roger. 1st was better then this time . Owners nice Rooms clean Pool nice Across the street from the beach No storage in bathroom for anything Rooms could use an update . Make sure to bring everything you would use at home with you including kitchen items And MAKE SURE THE ROOM YOU RESERVE IS WHAT YOU ARE GETTING. I reserved a 1st floor room pool side and have a email to prove it and when I got there they told me they did not have it and I got the 2nd floor with pool side . Even though I have an email to prove I reserved it , I did not get it. NOT HAPPY WITH THAT . We got bumped. No question and the owner says SORRY . I told him when I checked out I will shop around for another hotel and won’t come back . I want what I pay for . It didn’t bother him at all . I won’t go back .
Everything was perfect there, staff are nice and helpful the owners are super nice and friendly. Room was clean, new furniture and comfortable settings. Location is near the beach, boardwalk and restaurants. Designated smoking area, fast check in. In general, all the needed facilities were available. Ample parking space, free delicious coffee. We had a great time there, definitely we will be back soon:))
Great place located in wildwood crest. Beach is one block away. It has a breakfast place on premises with complimentary coffee. Would Definitely stay again. 6\26\25. Returned. Now they have a new coffee shop which serves breakfast and lunch. The pool is nice and warm. The rooms were clean and the service was very good as well. As stated above, great place to stay, great owners.
My daughter and I spent a week here June 2025. I really was impressed and couldn’t say a negative remark about the room, amenities, staff, etc. the staff made us feel so welcoming. The cleaning by ladies were great. Everyone was kind. We will be returning for sure. I spent more time on the beach but regretting not spending more time in the pool area. Thank you for making our vacation perfect!
Stopped saying after the build up of germs in the pool was noticed along the wall of the pool. Disgusting. They used to have a pool guy vacuum every day, but they lost him thru covid and the pool has not been professionally cleaned since then. Cloudy and gross. They just run the flitter. It's disgusting. Also the owner entered my room while I was not there . Never returned
Very nice rooms and beds was comfortable best place I've stayed so far in the area. I'll be back next year. Rooms are huge. The ocean front efficiency is highly recommended by me. The people that work here are very friendly. They have free coffee In there restaurant.
HORRIBLE, DIRTY & OVERPRICED!! Very disappointed. Booked their "Best" The Captains Quarters, for a family of 5. l 1st knew we were in for it when we walked up the main stairs to our room seeing their nasty old dirty matted carpet leading to a concrete crumbling hallway to our room. Greeted by our rooms dirty door that was patched up from previous damages and modifications over many years! Welcomed to a room with rubber, warped floors that may have never been mopped! I asked my children to wear socks that instantly became brown from walking on it! Ceiling tiles warped with mold and water stains! Not to mention the stench near the refrigerator and entrance area! A stench that overpowered the kitchen area day after day after day! We never found the source of that small... A small fridge that took forever to become cold with a broken coolness knob. The kitchen is NOT suited for cooking, dirty with stains. Kitchen sink is small with an old stove that had only 2 burners that worked, only had 1 fork and 2 spoons in the drawer. PRIVATE balcony is far from being private with the entire right side balcony rooms overlooking you. NO umbrella and unfortunately it rained 2 days and we couldn't even use the balcony! Main bedroom was basically a mattress on a metal frame. Windows that didnt close and we had to hear their LOUD music being played over the outdoor speakers from 10am to 9pm! You can see that they aren't investing a single dollar into that place!! Don't waste your money! Never again. See my pictures!!!
