The Sand Box Motel receives mixed reviews, with a strong emphasis on its pet-friendly atmosphere and welcoming staff. While some guests praise the cleanliness, location, and affordability, particularly highlighting the kindness of the owners and the convenient amenities like dog bowls and a heated pool, others have experienced significant issues including staff intoxication, questionable hygiene, and even bed bugs. Recent reviews suggest an improvement in service and cleanliness, but persistent concerns remain about the motel's overall management and safety.
Typical shore hotel, great for pets . Small heated pool and hot tub Onsite parking Near acme and plenty of things to do and eat. Very friendly and great hospitality our 3 season staying 2-3 times a summer.
Shame on me for giving this place a second chance after our first time was horrible! The first warning sign is that every time we called a drunken lady would pick up slurring her words so badly that even when I put it on speaker my husband couldn’t understand a word. I asked to speak with someone else and she screamed at me telling me she’s the manager. That was a huge turn off but decided to truck forward given the reviews. The moment I stepped on the property was atrocious nightmare. The same drunk woman on the phone was the same drunk woman checking us in. My husband suggested she was probably hungover but after informing her (again) we brought our dog with us she came from behind the desk to give us a bowl and we got an overwhelming smell of alcohol and possibly throw up that it made me gag. Before giving us the dog bowl which we had our own, she screamed as us saying we didn’t tell her that on the phone and that we were trying to hide it even though we mentioned the dog and had the dog in the office. I wanted to tell her we specifically asked that on the phone but she was too drunk to remember any of the conversation. I asked to speak to someone else and she told me her husband would come talk to us. He was a foul mouthed individual and we have children who heard him cursing like a drunken sailor. This place is not kid friendly whatsoever between the drunks cursing, unsavory people LIVING there, an eviction note on a door to a room, and thepolice coming to the property and removing/arresting people. While walking my dog a local told me that this motel is known for the owners and staff getting so drunk they can’t function which my family and I experienced. This local also told me that all of them have DUIs and upon looking up public record the owner has several. We felt extremely uncomfortable and unsafe staying here. There was a Hispanic man who tried helping us with our bags (I assume a bellhop) but he couldn’t understand us and vice versa and when my husband mentioned the police he dropped our bags and ran and said he wasn’t legal. This place is very loud where you can’t sleep at all, between the loud music and loud people living there my baby wouldn’t sleep. When we got up in the morning to complain the drunk woman Lor told us that there are other hotels around and said they don’t discount stays (that’s not what we asked for). I finally met the owner and it was not pleasant he yelled at me saying that only registered people were allowed on the property and that he was going to call the police to have me removed like he did the others and told me I can’t have a dog. He was drunk out of his mind. We had to leave because even trying to explain anything to these drunks nothing was resolved so we ended up losing so much money. I’m pretty sure the housekeeper was the one who stole my jewelry and cash unless someone else could get into our room. Don’t stay here. After driving all the way home (upper state PA) we discovered BED BUGS and we had bites all over us. Called them to report this and the drunk woman said we always have problems and tried blaming us when it wasn’t our fault. Our dog was infested with fleas from unclean and unkept rooms and I assume the people living there animals who stink. This place is AWFUL!!! Beware, I don’t know how they have a single goof review besides it being their friends. Do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else even if the rooms are cheap your experience here will cost you a fortune.
?????????? The Sandbox Motel is truly a gem — and Shiv is the heart of it. From the moment my partner Colleen and I arrived with our three dogs (August, Paisley, and Romeo), Shiv made us feel like family. His kindness and genuine warmth are rare these days, and it set the tone for one of the best travel experiences we’ve had in a very long time. At check?in, he greeted us with a big smile and immediately welcomed our pups with their own tray of dog bowls, treats, and even collapsible travel bowls for each of them. He went above and beyond by sharing coupons, local recommendations, dog?friendly beaches, restaurants, and things to do in the area. Every detail felt thoughtful and intentional. The motel itself is incredibly pet?friendly, but it’s Shiv’s hospitality that makes it exceptional. You can feel how much he cares about his guests — both human and furry. We left feeling appreciated, welcomed, and honestly a little spoiled. If you’re traveling with dogs (or even if you’re not), this is hands down the place to stay. Shiv, thank you for reminding us that kindness still exists in the world. We can’t wait to come back.
Great service. We went during the off season and had an issue with our room. The staff immediately put us in another room after we showed them what was going on. Super professional and helpful. All rooms also seem to have been renovated relatively recently.
Owners are very nice and move us to a better room when we checked in. Great place to spend the night and a great value for the cost. I would stay again!
I usually stay closer to the boardwalk, but this location is great. Everything is near if you need things. Check in was quick . Host at the desk was inviting and informative. Its great they accept pets. Stayed in a top room with balcony, great also. Rooms were very clean , seems some updates were made , but that goes with allot of motels . The smoke detector was already off the wall . Being signs you cant smoke (prior ppl ) not us! Cons.. Remodel the bathroom the color and style makes it look SO outdated! Overall it was a great stay . Worth booking again.
We traveled from Pennsylvania. Rooms are very basic, but very clean. Great location and we loved that we could bring our dog Rosie with us. If you're looking for an affordable and basic place, this is perfect. Owners were very nice. Thank you.
I absolutely love the sandbox motel, my husband and dogs come here multiple times a year for weekend aways, Trays and bowls are supplied for your furry family members, including a dog bath station! The pool and hot tub area are fabulous with lots of games and plenty of chairs. The staff make you feel like you’re at your home away from home. Lorraine at the front desk was very accommodating. This is the cleanest motel I’ve stayed at in wildwood. I’ll never stay anywhere else when I visit ! Book it! You’ll have a wonderful stay with your furry friends!
The Sandbox Motel was a wonderful experience for our family and pets. I wanted to bring my dog, but for other reasons we couldn’t; still, this would have been the place I’d bring him. The owner was incredibly kind and accommodating, and everyone in the group felt like part of a friendly community by the pool—they treated us as if they’d known us for years. I’d highly recommend this stay to anyone visiting Wildwood with kids and pets. The owner even offered to walk your pet, which was a very sweet gesture. There’s an Acme right behind the property, plus a liquor store and a few other shops on the side street, so everything you need is nearby. It’s not far from the boardwalk and the beach, with a perfect location and reasonable prices.
5 stars ! This motel is older so expect to see older rooms. I expected a stinky place since they allow pets along with the age. To my surprise there was absolutely no smell. No old smoky rugs. Everything was so clean. We had a kitchenette and it was perfect. We had a dog with us and they gave him a nice water bowl and food bowl and a treat. Outside, they have fresh water for the dogs and a tub for baths. The staff was extremely friendly especially Loraine and Shiv. They made us feel at home and welcomed. We had free bike rentals , grill access (by the way , these grills were so clean I thought I was the first one to use it.) The pool had child friendly games to play. Sometimes it’s all about the little touches that people keep coming back ! And the I can’t forget bed goose towel!
