This retro, Doo-wop themed hotel boasts a superior location just steps from the beach and boardwalk, coupled with excellent amenities like a heated pool, complimentary bikes, and on-site mini-golf. Guests consistently praise the spotless, vintage-chaired rooms and the helpful, responsive staff, though they frequently note that the accommodations are cramp and the building lacks modern climate control.
Retro Charm, Great Extras We booked at the Starlux for the classic Doo Wop architecture but ended up being totally blown away by the place. The hotel rooms are 95% balcony rooms looking out on the gorgeous pool. The rooms are of course VERY dated because of the age of the hotel, but we knew that going in, plus they are perfectly comfortable for 2-3 people. Surprisingly they were also quiet which wasn't expected considering the busy intersection the Starlux is on. The bathrooms were adorable with all the tile work & were perfectly clean. The room was well equipped with both a microwave & fridge/freezer, perfect for all the boardwalk leftovers. Plenty of outlets & the Smart TV was very useful for us. Unfortunately the standard rooms are quite small & would likely be cramped for larger groups though. The hotel amenities were great too. Of course the standout was the huge pool but we also liked the free washer & dryer, free beach gear rental, Doo Wop Lounge, & beach wash-off area. The pool was never too busy for us, was spotless clean, & served as a great nightlight after dark. The provided breakfast was decent enough, though don't expect anything beyond some juice, milk, muffins, & pastries. Parking was never an issue, the hotel has its own large lot that is strictly for hotel guests only. The Starlux location is next to perfect with only a short 1 block walk to the boardwalk & beach. The Boardwalk Tram can take you the full length of the boardwalk from there, & for everywhere else the hotel offers bike rentals for free. The Starlux also had some extra addons that we adored. Attached to the Hotel is an amazing 3 course Mini Golf course that had a number of its own amenities that we used while we stayed. There was a welcoming outdoor fire pit & food truck. While we were there it was a great lil' coffee stand in a gorgeous old Airstream, but I understand that they swap out the food truck by year. There's also a permanent Kohr Bros location which was a great way to end one of our nights. Additionally as the Starlux is owned by the Moreys Pier group we took full advantage of the steep $40 discount on combo park passes both days. The staff were nothing but exceptional while we were there. I specifically want to shout out to the front desk attendant. The one night we were caught in a torrential downpour walking back from dinner, & seeing us coming she quickly gathered fresh towels & met us at the door to help us dry off. It was a small thing, but helped turn a bad experience around. The Starlux Hotel was meant to just be a pretty place to rest our heads but ended up being a warm & welcoming home for us during our Wildwood Vacation. Highly Recommended.
Great location, with nice enough rooms, but what a nightmare of an overall experience because of the some of the other guests and the staff. The place has paper thin walls and with a cheerleading convention in town there were dozens of young, unsupervised, children screaming at the top of their lungs running through the hallways, doors constantly slamming and just causing general chaos both inside and outside the hotel. Spoke with the front desk several times as it was fairly constant, and it continued well into the evening both nights of our trip. I was told there was nothing that could be done. Impossibly long waits for the single elevator because the cheerleaders decided to use it as a toy all weekend long, holding it in between floors while playing. Overall it was a decent enough hotel for the price with a great location right off the beach, but if you’re looking for any type of quiet or relaxation make sure you’re aware that the inmates are apparently running the jail here, guests can basically do whatever they want regardless of how it affects other guests, and staff will do nothing to address it.
Our vacation in Wildwood was perfect in every way, in large part, because of our choice to stay at the Starlux Hotel. These are just a few of the reasons why: The Hotel: A top to bottom gorgeous building -- Mid-Century Modern as much of Wildwood has gone to celebrate their heritage. Our room was spotless – charming as can be. With a kitchenette what saved us on a few restaurant bills and a balcony overlooking both the beach and hotel pool. Amenities: Among other things, a gorgeous pool (see pics below), bubbling hot tub, 27 hole mini-golf, custard stand (Kohr’s famous), bicycles for the boards. A pretty great breakfast, too, with ‘round the clock coffee refills for when those kids run you ragged. Location: A very short walking distance from, but not limited to, the boardwalk (and everything THAT entails), the beach, the Convention Center, Morey’s Piers, a bunch of waterparks, that Wildwood sign in front of which everybody must take their family photos. The Staff: Oh so great! Kind, informative & helpful. With all that I’ve stated above, it was the staff that truly elevated our Starlux/Wildwood experience well beyond its stars.
Stayed here for one night in the off season for a wedding at Mudhen. Conveniently located, it was only a short walk away. The clerk at check in was pleasant, they have an elevator as well as steps to get to the 2nd & 3rd floors. The pool was closed for the season but the hot tub was still open. The rooms were clean, the beds comfortable. Room was small but it was fine for what we needed. Overall, it was a great stay and I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.
We only stayed here one night, but honestly wish we could have stayed longer. The property is immaculately maintained. The staff was excellent. We stayed in the Milano a house behind the main building. Despite it's age everything was in wiring order and the room and bathroom were spotless. My wife and I both said the shower at the hotel was one of the best of our lives.
Enjoyed the retro look and amenities this hotel had to offer and the staff was friendly and accommodating but the room was tight and uncomfortable especially when getting into the bathroom the bed was right next to the door, the bathroom had a pedestal sink so no counter space only a small glass shelf to put stuff on, the toilet was crammed into a corner between a partial wall and difficult to move around to do what you need to do, the bed mattresses were stiff and uncomfortable to sleep on. Should make some changes to make the rooms more comfortable for guests starting with those mattresses and sink or at least add some more shelves in the bathroom.
Just finished my 3rd consecutive year at Starlux. Staff has always been as accomadating as possible. Even when I was trying to book at last minute which was my fault, they were great w/ communicating and offering sollutions. In particular Carla was very helpful and friendly. The hotel is just right and location is just what we needed. The firepit and mini golf are a awesome treat when used. Kohrs ice cream truck up th block is also very convinient. There are countless places to choose from but for us this has been the right fit. No place will be perfect but the feel and vibe is as good as it gets. Will be going again next year!
One star is generous. This hotel is a sweaty, overpriced trap. The elevator? Zero ventilation. If you get stuck in there, good luck you’ll feel like you’re about to suffocate. The hallways have no AC, so staff prop doors open even when it’s over 90°. Walking to your room feels like crossing a sauna. The stairs are unsafe! someone nearly slammed the door open on me mid-descent. No warning signs, no safety measures. Just hope you don’t end up tumbling down like I almost did. The rooms? Cramped. Stuffy. Misleadingly photographed. What looks spacious online is actually a tight, dated setup that feels more like a closet. If you enjoy sleeping in what feels like a hot storage unit, this is your place. Hair dryer not working and the plugs in the bathroom doesn’t either so I couldn’t use my water flosser. The pool is laughably tiny, and nothing about this place says “family-friendly.” It’s overpriced, underwhelming, and honestly kind of shady in how it presents itself online. I would not recommend this hotel under any circumstances. Don’t waste your money or your patience. This should not be considered hotel, more like a motel. Hotels I’ve stayed at are far more comfortable and has the right measurements for rooms and beds.
Very friendly staff from the first phone call I made to get information in Nov 2024 until we checked out this morning. During my first phone call the woman on the phone told me which rooms would be best for us, when I called in Jan 2025 to make reservations, the woman was pleasant and gave me a room on the 3rd floor. We checked in on Sunday and the lobby staff was great. Our room was clean, and just what we wanted. I love the Rosemary mint soap. Our balcony faced the Wildwood sign and the beach overlooking the mini golf. I can't tell you how happy that made me. I have arthritis in my knee and can only stand/walk for so long. I brought my daughter and grandkids here so they could experience the Wildwood I loved as a child. My grandson want to play mini golf a lot and I didn't want to play everytime. But I could sit on the balcony and watch. The pool was clean and not too crowded. Location was very convenient for boardwalk fun. Check out was a breeze and again very friendly staff, I even got a hug. I would certainly stay here again and recommend this hotel.
Right next to the boardwalk, literally a 2 minute walk to the boardwalk. Nice room, free continental breakfast (bagels were amazing). Pool was perfect way to cool off. Would definitely stay again.
