The Monterey Resort receives mixed reviews, with some guests praising its prime beachfront location, friendly staff, and engaging evening entertainment. However, a significant portion of recent feedback highlights issues with room quality, cleanliness, and unresponsive management. Several reviewers have noted dilapidated rooms, particularly issues with mold and discomforting temperatures, alongside a demanding and unpleasant manager.
Terrible place to stay. Our room, 215 in the “breezeway”, was awful. Beds were hard, bathroom was disgraceful and the a/c was set at 72 degrees and locked by the owner of the room. As hot as it was that was definitely not cool enough. The proprietor told us that the a/c worked great. Has to be the worse room i have ever stayed in. Check out was 10am, but we left before 7am, after getting little sleep, because we couldn’t stay any longer in this disgusting motel. They can call it a “resort”, but it is really just a run down motel.
This was probably the worst experience and room I’ve ever stayed in and I’ve been vacationing in Wildwood Crest since 1974. Checked out of our previous hotel which was lovely and wanted to stay one more night. Found Monterey Resort after a long day at the pool. Asked how the ac worked before committing to the room and was told it worked great! It barely worked at all, it was locked at 72 degrees which is insane and if the owner wants to lock the thermostat, then the renter should’ve been advised of that. It was an awful accommodation. Dark, dingy and hot! My husband and I slept on beds that were hard and very uncomfortable. I use the word “slept” very loosely as we didn’t sleep at all. Got up at the crack of dawn and left this decrepit, old, poorly kept “resort.” Room 215.
Small, quiet, right on the beach; very friendly staff!
I love it it's a really nice place the rooms are amazing and great view.
Stayed in room 302. Room needs to be updated. The smell of mold was so strong that even the bed sheets smelled like it. Besides the room, the place was good. Nice view of the ocean and nice pool. Good place for family with kids.
The Monterey is a great place to stay. It is a hop skip and a jump away from the ocean/beach. Literally on the beach. We always enjoy our time there and it's away from the boardwalk so it's nice and quiet at night. A quick trip on your bike (10 minutes) or a 5 minute car ride or so and you're at the boardwalk. Lisa and Fran are so welcoming to the guests. Prior to 2020 we didn't have the best luck with management but boy have things changed. Fran (excuse me) Mr. Bingo hosts Friday night bingo with prizes for the everyone. Let alone Saturday has live music and "Monterey has talent". A variety show staring the very own guests staying at the Monterey. They promise more to come to! They also have bell service (during main season) where they bring bags to your room when you check in and back down when you check out. The young man's name is Timmy and boy is he a worker. Need extra towels? Housekeeping staff are impeccable. Rooms are clean and stocked... I've never seen them not smile. Not to mention free parking assigned by room # so you can rest assured knowing you car is right there and close to the beach. Our room was beautiful. Room 301 is on the top floor literally OCEANFRONT! The room has relaxing colors and beautiful furniture all updated. The bedroom is comfortable and great for a family of 4 however if you have a larger family there's also a new couch that pulls out to sleep 2 more. The bathroom has been updated and is nice and clean. Don't get me started on the oversized shower head... with a small window to look out at the ocean while showering... I never wanted to get out! The view is what sells the room though. A 270 degree view from the kitchen table, or the couch for those just looking to surf the channels. But when you step out onto the oversized deck to read a book or just take in the views, you get kissed by the sea air and endless beach views. You can see all the way past the first 2 piers off the boardwalk all the way down to Diamond Beach. There's 3/4 floor to ceiling windows that let in a copious amount of natural lighting as well. The kitchen was sized just right so we can enjoy a few home cooked meals coupled with the grilling area on the 1st floor (beware of seagulls....they like hot dogs)... but to help the budget we had no issues with breakfast or lunch. Nice kitchen utensils, pots and pans and plate ware you can tell the owners didn't forget one detail. We look forward to the trip back! We definitely will be staying in Room 301 again and can't wait to yell BINGO!!! at the Monterey.
My family and I stayed here several years in a row and had a blast! The staff is very friendly and the entire property was immaculate and very well kept. The units are also updated, clean and modern. Anything that we needed, the staff took care of immediately. Timmy was one of the hardest working young men we've even seen at a resort, helping everyone to and from their cars. You can park your car and Timmy will help unload all of your belongings. Great job, Timmy! Keep up the great work. We will return!!!
What a great time! This resort was wonderful. Our room was very spacious with many amenities. The staff is so friendly and accommodating. Lisa, the manager is very sweet and helpful and her husband Fran had us laughing the whole time. Our 2 young boys had a blast playing and dancing on the patio to Fran’s DJ/karaoke night. This resort had a very welcoming community feel to it. We’re already looking to book again soon!
Great location and the motel was nice enough. I went with my adult siblings and all our kids, so we were a large, excited group. The manager was as miserable as she could be. At check-in, I informed her I had an extra child with me. I figured there would be an extra fee (which I didn't mind paying). You'd have thought I kicked her dog with the reaction she gave me. We didn't hang out at the motel that much, however the few hours we did hang out on the patio she watched over us like an angry, bitter hall monitor. The rest of the staff seemed nice enough.... but the manager was even rude to them. She acted as if she was doing us all there a huge favor by allowing us to rent vacation rooms from her. There were plenty other motels with vacancy signs up near by. We will certainly be trying one of those out next year.
